Hairikian Sues Aravot Daily for Libel

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The chairman of the Self-Determination Union and presidential advisor Paruir Hairikian applied to the prosecutor general for instituting criminal proceedings against Aravot daily reporter Avetis Babajanian on a charge of libel.

Meeting with journalists–Tuesday–Hairikian said that Babajanian in his article entitled "Paruir Hairikian Enjoys Support of Special Services" published by the daily Saturday–asserts that Hairikian "coerced the shareholders of the Bardzarashen Poultry Farm openly held jsc. into selling their shares to him by using violence–blackmail and threats."

He also pointed out that the control of the enterprise is held by Armen Hambartsumian–who was a guard of the former interior minister Vano Siradeghian. The same article makes it clear that Hairikian himself eventually failed to purchase a single share.
