Sexual Awareness Program to be Implemented in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– The Armenian Family Health Association is implementing a sexual awareness program sponsored by the British Embassy in Armenia and UNICEF. The program will be organized at the Center for Children and Teenager Health located in the Republican Children’s Hospital–Family Health Association president–Mary Khachikian–told Noyan Tapan.

According to Khachikian–the program includes the distribution of information packets–and seminars on sexual issues concerning teenagers. Teenagers are also being examined in order to prevent any irregularity in sexual growth or diseases that can eventually lead to the loss of the genital function. Mrs. Khachikian pointed out that special attention is being paid to prevention of undesirable pregnancy–up-to-date methods of family planning–and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases–including AIDS. The program currently involves teenagers from Yerevan schools but is expected to be launched countrywide.
