Publishing of Maps and Atlases Needs Financing

YEREVAN (Armen Press)– The Ministry of Education undertook the responsibility of preparing a new set of maps and atlases to be used in Armenian schools.

Several volumes have already been issued last Novemeber and sponors have been sought to help with the financial burden.

Negotiations have been started with the Armenian-British company "Pyunik-Macmillan," a potential publisher.

Sources say that in the last 30-35 years a map that precisely replicates Armenian history has not been published. Also the atlases printed from 1952 to 1961 are almost impossible to find these days.

Maps that are available do not always correspond to the ciriculum taught in the classrooms.

Armenian schools have been left without maps and atlases. In order to improve this serious educational problem sponsors must be found.
