YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In regards to recent events in the Akhalkalak region–the Armenian Union of Javakhk announced that it has not participated in armed activity against the Georgian military.
President of the "Javakhk" Union Hovannes Ayvazian–in an interview with Armenpress–stated that the accusations made against "Javakhk" are "dramatically exaggerated."
According to Ayvazian–in response to the advancement of the Georgian military into the Javakhk region–the "Javakhk" activists approached the brigade for an explanation. Both sides noted that Russian mediators or peacekeepers were not present and therefore–the brigade opted to turn back in fear of sparking complications.
Ayvazian added that there has not been an attack on Russian forces in Akhalkalak–and no prisoners have been taken. He added that the August 13 bombing of the regional administrative building has nothing to do with the "confrontation" between the "Javakh" and the Georgian military brigade.
