Dual Citizenship Beneficial Says Hayhavak Party

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Armenian "Hayhavak" ("Armenian Council") party announced that it believes that the Constitution should stipulate dual citizenship. The party participates in the work of the Presidential Constitution Amendment Commission.

The party’s leader–Tigran Sahakian–said that the stipulation of dual citizenship in the Constitution is necessary for the following reasons: 1) Most of the four million Armenia’s in the Diaspora express willingness to become citizens of Armenia–and Armenia ought to use this to its benefit; 2) After becoming a citizen of Armenia–a Diasporan Armenian can apply his financial–scientific and cultural potential in Armenia–which holds out vast possibilities for Armenia-Diaspora relations; and 3) Diasporan Armenia’s will have a powerful stimulus to protect themselves from being assimilated and stay in the sphere of state building.
