Central Bank Chairman Meets USAID Official

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Central Bank of Armenia Chairman Tigran Sargssian met with Diana Swain–acting director of the Armenia-based Office of the United States Agency for International Development Monday to discuss USAID possibilities of assisting in programs of the Central Bank.

The sides stressed the need for raising the level of training programs in the banking educational center of Armenia which was set up by the Central Bank of Armenia and the Bank Association of Armenia with the assistance of the USAID.

The two also highlighted the need for training a national teaching staff.

The creation of a common system of paymen’s in Armenia was also among issues discussed. According to Sargssian–on the current stage of economic reforms Armenia attaches great importance to the development of a common system of paymen’s which will make it possible to reduce the share of the shadow economy–accumulate financial means in the banking system and minimize the risk of paymen’s.
