National Assembly to Discuss Monument Bill

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Late last month the chief of the department on protection of historical and cultural monumen’s in Armenia Gagik Giurjian held the first meeting of the department’s scientific and methodical council. The meeting approved the proposal regarding the restoration of the Holy Savior Church in Gumri and instructed the "Holy Savior" Fund–which is implementing the project–to submit all related working drafts for the department’s approval.

The meeting also discussed the draft of restoration of the Dadivank complex and the draft on the plantation of trees in the territory of Khor-Virap in connection with the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as a state religion in Armenia. It was also proposed that detailed working drafts on the restoration of a small church in the territory of Dadivank–as well as drafts on the plantation of trees and repairs of the irrigation network in the territory of old Artashat–be submitted to the department for approval to prevent any possible damage of the archeological layer.

Giurjian reported that a bill "On Monumen’s" will be submitted to the National Assembly for discussion this month to bring clarity into his department’s work.
