YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Details of the incident that took place at the Yerevan military police garrison on August 8 were announced.
As earlier reported–the executive director of the Armenian Fund Against Violation of Law (Fund for Protection of Hostages) Larisa Alaverdian was a witness to actions on the part of three persons in uniform humiliating the human dignity of two soldiers.
It was revealed that the cause for the incident was an attempt to steal on the part of the two soldiers. Discovering the traces of the attempt of theft–warrant officers–instead of reporting the incident to the upper commanders–decided to take matters into their own hands.
The Fund for Protection of Hostages public organization sent an appeal to Defense Minister Vazgen Sargssian in connection with the incident.
"The Ministry of Defense rather quickly responded to the raised issue and the two warrant officers were strictly reprimanded and warned that they will be expelled from the Armed Forces of Armenia if similar things recur," the Fund for Protection of Hostages said in its release on Monday.
It is stressed that the given order is to be discussed at operative consultations of the personal staff of all divisions of the Department of Military Police.
Larisa Alaverdian told Noyan Tapan that the Ministry of Defense also stated that the Department of Military Police will take measures to tackle any further negative phenomena.
According to Alaverdian–the incident can be regarded as settled–but the problem as it is–to prevent the practice of applying methods humiliating human dignity–is still awaiting solution and time will show to what extent the measures taken by the Ministry of Defense are effective.
