YEREVAN (Armenpress)– ARF Bureau member Masis Baghdassarian–Executive Council vice-representative Armen Rustamian and Executive Council member Eduard Ghazarian met with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian on Thursday.
During the meeting several important foreign policy issues were discussed. One of the key issues was the situation in Karabakh. Oskanian presented the course the Armenian government is taking towards solving the problem. The prime minister stated that the government is attempting to solve the problem as quickly as possible and without any preconditions. The ARF representatives suggested that the issues discussed not be presented to the public until it can be done so in an orderly–clear way.
Also discussed were the latest developmen’s in the Javakhk region and the relations between Armenian and Iran–stressing Oskanian’s recent visit to Iran. The ARF members presented their outlook on the relations with Iran and discussed the importance of Armenian-Iranian cooperation in the region.
Turning their focus to Russia–the two sides discussed the recent developmen’s in Russia. The political and economic spectrums of Russia were evaluated. The ARF representatives stated their opinion saying that the situation in Russia can turn out to be detrimental to Armenia–and that the Armenian government has to take certain steps to ensure its own stability.
Oskanian further briefed the representatives on foreign policy issues that are still in the developmental stage–and both sides shared their views on the appropriate issues. In order to stay up to date with foreign policy issues–and to ensure a constant–healthy exchange of opinions between the government and the ARF–such meetings were promised to be held periodically.
