Armenia’s Ambassador to UN Selected Committee Chair

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters)–Armenia’s representative to the United Nations Movses Abelian was elected Wednesday to chair the General Assembly’s administrative and budgetary committee

He joined representatives from Belgium–Iran–Tunisia–Mexico and Mongolia who were elected by acclamation on Wednesday as chairmen of the General Assembly’s six main committees.

Most of the Assembly’s approximately 160 agenda items are debated first in the committees–whose resolutions then are sent to the plenary body for endorsement.

All 185 UN members are represented on each of the main committees.
