President Concerned Over Communication Problems

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Due to the complaints of the subscribers to Armenia’s telephone network–ArmenTel–the issue of communication has been a concern for the president–Minister of Post and Communications Artak Vardanian told journalists.

Vardanian reported that there are many complaints in regards to the procrastination in providing new telephone lines–restoration of communication for those subscribers who have paid off their debts–extortion of money and other violations. Vardanian pointed out that the president is currently discussing this problem with representatives of the Ministry of Post and Communications and the ArmenTel company to find a way out of the situation.

The disconnection of telephone lines are conditioned by a switch-over to a new digital system–the Yerevan Telephone Department told Noyan Tapan. Besides–all parallel telephone lines must be disconnected–which involves the disconnection of the switchboards that serve 400 subscribers for 12 days. The necessity for laying new telephone cables–which involves construction work–also complicates the problem.
