Rustamian Discusses Russian Crisis Impact on Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The economic and financial crisis in Russia may entail serious political consequences and turn into an economic and political crisis," Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia Vice-Representative Armen Rustamian said in an interview with Noyan Tapan.

He pointed out that the absence of a government endorsed by the State Duma resulted in a number of regions taking measures to stabilize the situation without coordinating actions with Moscow. "We hope that all procedures will continue within the Constitution–and a government that can handle the situation and has a clear anti-crisis program will be formed in Russia," said the ARF official.

According to Armen Rustamian–the government of Armenia’should take into consideration the current events in Russia–analyze their influence and the possibilities of their penetration into Armenia and take measures to prevent its impact on the financial sphere of Armenia. Rustamian also pointed out that Russia’s strategic interests in relation to the Transcaucasus are stable and it is unlikely that the next government of Russia–no matter what it is–will change its political stance.
