Shahnazarian Continues to Destabalize Nation

The more things change–the more they stay the same. Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s national security advisor Davit Shahnazarian was up to his old tricks again–resuming what was once his mantra–anti-ARF propaganda.

Noyan Tapan news agency reported that during a television appearance Wednesday evening–Shahnazarian–now a parliament member–announced that "there was no criminal prosecution of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. Only individuals suspected of committing crimes were prosecuted."

Evidently–Shahnazarian has conveniently forgotten that his boss–former president Ter-Petrosyan went on television on Dec. 28–1994 and banned the entire ARF operation in Armenia without a court decision or ruling. Shahnazarian added that "murderers in the Dro case and all other criminals received their punishment–but perhaps there were things I–unfortunately–failed to carry through–as I am not sure that all criminals were exposed."

As one of the key players during of the Ter-Petrosyan regime–Shahnazarian was directly involved in the anti-ARF and anti-national movement. It seems that Shahnazarian has decided to resume that destabilizing role–once again–and has hit the airwaves with tactics remnant of those utilized by Ter-Petrosyan and his regime.

One can’t help but wonder whether Shahnazarian’s statemen’s are in any way connected to the recent "Secret Dinner Party," held at former Interior Minister Vano Siradeghian’s house. It is reported that the ANM ruling elite gathered to plot the overthrow of the government–resume the anti-ARF campaign and continue to destabilize the nation.

Meanwhile–President Robert Kocharian commented in Thursday’s edition of "Hayots Ashkhar" on intensifying attacks by former and present leaders of the Armenian National Movement.

He said rumors about the imminent resignation of the cabinet are "disseminated by those directly responsible for the current state of the country" and those who "plundered the state for years."

"They need to speak out because they are already launching [their] election campaign." The president said the "rumors should be treated with humor."
