YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan). The closing ceremony of the European Chess Jr. Championship was held at the "Erebuni" Hotel onThursday. FIDE vice-president Vanik Zakarian greeted the participants and wished them further successes in sport life.
The results of the competition were summed up by the chief referee Ashot Vardapetian. Sopio Tkeshelashvili of Georgia was declared champion in the female competition; her teammate Rusudan Goletiani was second and was given the silver medal–and Jovanka Huska of Great Britain became the third prize winner became.
Levon Aronian became the European title winner among males. Alexander Motylev of Russia finished second. The third prize winner was determined by additional parameters. 15-year-old Armenian chess-player Gabriel Sargissian was declared the winner over Van Den Doel of the Netherlands and Christos Banikas and was awarded the bronze.
