Kocharian Begins US Visit

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– President Robert Kocharian–accompanied by his wife Bella Kocharian–Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian–spokeswoman Kassia Apkarian and aide Armen Gevorgian–left for the United States on Wednesday morning to attend the 53rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. On September 25–President Kocharian will make an inaugural speech at the session. His speech will be broadcast live to Armenia–at 7:00 p.m. local time.

In New York–Kocharian is scheduled to meet with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and representatives of the Eastern Office of the "Hayastan" Fund of the Armenian community of America. In New York the delegation will be joined by Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin I. Thereafter the delegation will fly to Los Angeles where he will attend a reception marking the 100th airlift of the United Armenian Fund. This event will be broadcast live by Horizon Television on KLCS channel 58. Kocharian is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Van Nuys Airport.

On Sunday he will meet with representatives of the three Armenian political parties and community organizations and later address a public rally marking the seventh anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia to be held at 6 p.m. at Universal Amphitheater. Kocharian is scheduled to address a non-Armenian forum at the Los Angeles World Affiars Council Monday.

On Monday–the president of Armenia will also meet with businessmen at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office and visit the "Hi-Tech" Plant.

At the invitation of John Huntsman–the Armenian delegation will visit Utah on Tuesday where they will visit Huntsman’s Central Office. The Armenian delegation will return to Yerevan on October 1.
