YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The military exercises you’ve just attended are not demonstrative; this is the army’s everyday life," Defense Minister Vazgen Sargssian told reporter following the Armenian-Russian joint military exercises conducted in Armavir. "I believe the level of performance is in line with the experience of the seven-year-old national army," said the minister.
The minister highlighted that along with better fighting efficiency the technical base of the army had also developed.
He specifically discussed the Baghramian Military College which is equipped with the necessary amenities and a camp for 1,000 soldiers which was constructed by soldiers. The minister announced that during the past two years almost all regimen’s were stationed at the camp.
Sargssian stressed that there were numerous problems plaguing the efficient preparation of the armed forces–specifically stressing financial issues and shortage of funds.
The minister reported that the Russian troops used 10 times as much ammunition as the Armenian units. "We have to spare each cartridge," he said–adding that training bases needed to be upgraded.
The minister also emphasized the need for better discipline in the army–stressing that the aforementioned problems were mutually connected.
