YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Participants of an October 16 roundtable organized by the Environment Protection Advocacy Center decided to appeal judicial bodies to review a lawsuit on the handover of a plot of a Yerevan park to the Iranian Embassy.
The public garden was handed to the Iranian Embassy in 1997 under a contract signed between a resident of Yerevan Rafik Barseghian and the Iranian Embassy. The contract stipulated that the Iranian Embassy purchase an non-constructed portion of the park for $150,000.
The Armenian Court of Appeals issued a verdict at the Arabkir court–ruling that the deal was legal.
The roundtable which was attended by representatives of more than 10 non-governmental organizations–the prosecutor’s office–the Environmental Protection Ministry and National Academy of Sciences experts decided to apply to diplomatic missions and stress that the deal was made without the proper involvement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
