Oskanian Meets With Arafat

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s foreign minister Vartan Oskanian–on an official visit to Israel–met with Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat in the West Bank Saturday.

The Palestinian leader briefed Oskanian on the Arab-Israeli peace process–while the Armenia foreign minister discussed the ongoing efforts to secure peace in the Karabakh conflict.

Oskanian briefed Arafat on expectations from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s upcoming scheduled visit of the Minsk Group co-chairman to the Caucasus.

The Armenian leader also clarified Armenia’s position on the Karabakh conflict resolution.

The two leaders also discussed the development of Armenian-Palestinian relations–stressing the importance of increasing dialogue between the two sides and discussed possible bi-lateral projects.

Oskanian and Arafat also discussed regional security and political issues.

On Friday–Oskanian met with leaders of the Armenian community in Jerusalem–including the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Arch. Torkom Manougian.

In his remarks–Oskanian discussed–in depth–Armenia’s foreign policy platforms–including economic and social reforms anticipated in the future.
