ARF Says Not Surprised by Law Suit Threats

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The co-chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia Armen Rustamian announced Friday that the party expected to hear law suit threats after it publicly condemned the former regime of embezzlement and publicized names of individuals affiliated with such illegal activities.

"Let them take us to court. It is their right," said Rustamian adding that "we also have our own views and our own say [on the matter] and we are prepared to present them in court."

At a rally last Friday–attended by more than 20,000 Armenia’s–the ARF publicized a list of names of individuals who through their affiliation and rank with the former regime–looted the national wealth and embezzled large sums of money from humanitarian and international assistance program.

Some of the notable figures fingered by the ARF were former National Security Chief Davit Shahnazarian–former Education Minister Ashot Bleyan and the former heads of Armenia’s customs and avaiation departmen’s.

"When we publicized the names–we knew full well what the consequences would be," commented Rustamian.

"Our aim was clear: the irresponsible atmosphere which could emerge in Armenia must be stopped. And we have taken the first resolute step in the matter," concluded Rustamian.
