“Nakhichevan” Union Denies it Called to Seize Nakhichevan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– Some media outlets of Armenia have distorted problems discussed at the October 27 news conference and the forum of Armenia’s of Nakhichevan which followed it. They alleged that the Union called to form units of volunteers and seize Nakhichevan–Mush–Alashkert and Bitlis and said that the Armenian authorities have allegedly agreed to this–a statement issued by the "Nakhichevan" Union claims.

The statement presents the official viewpoint of the Union–which was accepted at the October 28 forum:

The forum calls on the President and National Assembly of Armenia to recognize void an agreement signed on October 13–1921 between Turkey and Soviet Armenia;– the forum suggests the government of Armenia appealing to UNESCO with a proposal to set up an international commission which will examine the condition of churches–cemeteries and other monumen’s located in the Nakhichevan Republic for the purpose of preventing their further destruction and restoring and enforcing the damaged monumen’s – the forum suggests St. Echmiadzin Holy See appealing to the World Church Council to act as a mediator in the issue of including some of the christian shrines of Nakhichevan on route of the international pilgrimage organized on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity in Armenia.
