YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–An 18-person Syrian government delegation arrived in Yerevan for the first official session of the Armenian-Syrian inter-governmental commission founded four years ago.
The session ends Friday. The Syrian delegation is headed by Economy and Trade Minister Dr. Mohammad al-Imadi. Armenia’s chief representative is Trade and Industry Minister Haik Gevorkian.
Dr. Al-Imadi told RFE/RL’s Yerevan bureau that cooperation between the two countries is not confined to the work of the commission–the primary aim of which is to seek to broaden bilateral cooperation. Participants at the session will hold a press conference Friday–when the new Syrian embassy compound in Yerevan is scheduled to be opened.
