Preparations Underway for Parajanov’s 75th Jubilee

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Internationally renowned Armenian filmmaker Sergey Parajanov’s 75th jubilee will be marked by the Armenian government in May–announced the Ministry of Culture.

According to the director of the Parajanov Museum in Yerevan–Zaven Sargsian–May 6 though 9 will mark the jubilee with an extensive screening of Parajanov’s works. In addition to his films–a number of exhibitions will concentrate on the artist’s life and creations shown through various media–including film and print. 15 films–four of which have been made by Armenia’s–will cover Parajanov’s life.

Rouben Gevorgian’s and Garik Zakoian’s The Last Collage will also be exhibited. The last exhibition of this film took place in January of 1998.

A number of seminars and roundtables will also be sponsored on various aspects of Parajanov’s life. Taking part in these discussions will be international scholars on Parajanov. The culmination of the jubilee events will be the unveiling of a bronze Parajanov statue at his grave site–commissioned by the government and created by sculptor Ara Shiraz.

According to Sargsian–plans are underway to establish the Parajanov Film Festival–which will take place biennially.

In related news–the Armenpress new agency reported that the Parajanov Museum marked the artist’s jubilee Friday–Parajanov’s birthday.
