Armenia Against Azeri Turkish Military Pact

YEREVAN (Xinhua)–Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian Wednesday expressed Yerevan’s opposition to a proposed military treaty between neighboring Azerbaijan and Turkey.

He said the pact–suggested by Azeri foreign policy adviser Vafa Guluzade–may polarize countries of the region–Interfax reported. However–he defended his country’s defense cooperation with Russia–saying it was not directed against any third country but meant only to strengthen the security of Armenia.

He said Azerbaijan’s determination to resist this cooperation was dangerous and may undermine stability in the region and have an adverse effect on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

Oskanian said on Wednesday that mediators from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe should not make any changes in their latest Nagorno-Karabakh peace plan after its rejection by Azerbaijan.
