Board of Regents Organizes National Education Symposium

More than 30 years ago–the first Armenian American Day School was founded in Encino–California. Today–in the United States and Canada the number of schools exceeds 25. During the last decade–an ongoing immigration from Middle Eastern Countries and Armenia–the establishment of an independent homeland–and the priority of education in the socio-political life in America–have created new challenges for our schools. The time is ripe to coordinate efforts in a harmonium manner to overcome obstacles that confront us–in search for effective solutions.

With this in mind–the Board of Regents organized a conference for the week-end of May 27-30–1999–at Chamlian Armenian School in Glendale–California.

Invitations have been sent to 27 Armenian Day Schools in the United States and Canada. Twenty have responded affirmatively thus far.

We hope that this unprecedented conference will be the first step towards a more comprehensive and permanent basis for cooperation.
