Renowned Poetess Blasts Head of Writers Union Quits

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A renowned Armenian poetess–academician of the Armenian Academy of Sciences Silva Kaputikian issued the following statement:

"I am deeply indignant over an open letter of the chairman of the Armenian Writers Union Hrant Matevossian and ‘almost all members of the Union,’ supporting Vano Siradeghian. I do not believe it to be necessary to speak about Vano Siradeghian in this brief statement–since I have already been writing against him for ten years and have nothing to add to it–except for one thing: his speech at the National Assembly of Armenia was a disgusting attempt to set two parts of our nation–Armenia and Karabakh–against each other. Nobody could expect such anti-national action even from Vano Siradeghian. How far must an Armenian–moreover a writer–have degraded to support such a person!

"Therefore–I announce that I am quitting the Armenian Writers Union and will return only when the Union gets not only fair talented leader–but also a leader who is dedicated to the people and worthy of a the high title of writer."
