Hamazkayin Western Region Elects Executive

The Hamazkayin Western USA regional convention was held Sunday–January 24 at the Central Executive office. Participing in the meeting were 25 representatives from all the chapters–former executive member Varoujan Demirjian and newly elected member and representative Hratch Simonian.

Central Executive chairperson Hagop Geovjehizian opened the meeting. Following the reading of the minutes–the executive of the meeting was elected–chairperson Armen Donoyan and secretaries Hrair Sherikian and Ashkhen Papazian.

After the election of resolutions–archival–auditing–and balloting committees–ARF Western Region Central Executive representative Avedis Ispendjian–noting the cultural and educational value of Hamazkayin–asked the members of the meeting to devote their efforts in the community with the utmost sense of responsibility and organization.

The biannual report was read by the departing executive–and representatives from art–music and literature councils gave their reports. The meeting then discussed and went over numerous resolutions and suggestions relating to cultural and organizational issues.

Central Executive representative Hratch Simonian in his address outlined the current state of Hamazkayin–stressing that the Armenian community expects a lot from the organization. He noted that this meeting is unique–because it has gathered under the concerns and advisement of its members to elect a young–energetic and active executive.

The meeting elected seven members to the executive body: Hrair Garabedian–Hrair Sherikian–Isahaga Levon–Ara Kevorkian–Talin Zomjian–Hovig Khachadurian–and Juliet Tavitian. Hrair Garabedian was elected chairperson–Hovig Khachadurian as vice-chairperson–Talin Zomjian and Juliet Tavitian as secretaries–and Hrair Sherikian as treasurer.
