Prosecutor Brings Criminal Charges in ArmenTel Matter

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Last week the Prosecutor’s Office instituted criminal into the legality of establishment and activities of "ArmenTel" deal.

The preliminary investigation will be conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office–a written report by the Prosecutor General addressed to the National Assembly stated.

The document added that since January 14 the Prosecutor’s Office had been investigating causes of disfunctioning of a significant portion of Armenia’s communication system from 1991 to 1998 on the proposal of the prime minister and on the basis of press reports.

In particular–the Prosecutor’s Office was investigating the legality of establishment of the ArmenTel joint venture.

The Ministry of Finance has been charged to conduct special probes in connection with the case.
