Driukov Calls for Cooperation Between Business Communities

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Alarm should be sounded at the considerable decrease in the trade turnover between Russia and Armenia–Chairman of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen (UMBA) Aram Vardanian said during the meeting of the Armenian businessmen with Russian Ambassador to Armenia Anatoly Driukov.

Vardanian stressed the importance of Armenian-Russian traditional commercial and industrial relations and pointed out that everything possible should be done to restore these relations. Last year–power resources were mainly imported from Russia. Economic ties between the two countries were expanded and deepened. The UMBA chairman once again mentioned the negative impact the Russian financial crisis had on Armenia.

Ambassador Driukov highly appreciated the traditions and pointed out that the two sides were always convinced of the importance of the Armenia-Russia economic relations. He said that not only should the former relations be restored–but also new mutually advantageous deals should be followed through.

Government structures should promote the cooperation between the two countries’ business communities–the ambassador stated. He also highly appreciated the meetings of the Armenian and Russian Prime Ministers–Armen Darbinian and Yevgeny Primakov.
