BAKU (Noyan Tapan–GavgazPress)– "The allowing of secession will result in a dangerous aftermath–and those who are following the events in Kosovo will attest to that," said Azeri President Haydar Aliyev during his meeting with Yugoslav ambassador Darko Tanaskovich.
Aliyev said that his administration is carefully following the events in Kosovo–because the fair resolution to that conflict will pave the road for the resolution of similar conflicts in other regions.
"The rightful resolution to the conflict in Yugoslavia is to not allow independence–because–otherwise–it will create a dangerous precedent for others to follow," said Aliyev.
Aliyev said he understood Yugoslavia’s problem well–because he is dealing with similar issues with the "Armenian community in Nagorno-Karabakh."
"Azerbaijan will never agree to Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence," said Aliyev. "We are ready to grant Karabakh the highest degree of autonomy as long as it stays within Azerbaijan," Aliyev added.
