OSCE Delegation Visits Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Presidential advisor on foreign affairs Aram Sargssian met with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway–visiting the region in preparation for the upcoming visit by Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Chairman in Office Gnoud Vollebek.

The delegation had been to Nagorno Karabakh to familiarize itself with that country’s position on the Karabakh conflict resolution procedures and arrived in Armenia Tuesday for talks with officials. The delegation is expected to visit Baku–after completing meetings in Armenia.

"Armenia’supports the latest package of proposals by the OSCE Minsk Group and is inclined to view the Karabakh conflict resolution from an international law perspective," Sargssian declared.

The presidential advisor expressed that Armenia’strongly supported constructive dialogue and deemed that peace talks were the only means to garner a settlement.

"If Azerbaijan continues to reject proposals to resume talks–then there will arise a need for the legal wording of the situation of neither war–no peace," said Sargssian.

Economic cooperation would be instrumental in easing political tensions and bring the positions of the conflicting sides closer together. To this end–Sargssian explained–Armenia had already taken a step by securing its participation in regional projects–including the TRACECA program.

The presidential press service quoted Rune Oskheym–Norwegian Foreign Secretary in charge of the Caucasus–as saying that the introduction of new proposals was unlikely during the OSCE chairman in office’s visit to the region in April.

"All proposals have been laid out on the table. Simply–it is necessary to elaborate on the elemen’s to serve as a basis for talks," he added.
