Iranian Armenian Specialists Plan Construction of Thermal Plants

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "Armhydroenergoproject" Institute has completed the feasibility study for the construction of a thermal power plant in Meghri as part of economic cooperation between Armenia and Iran–the Institute’s Director Armen Grigorian told Noyan Tapan.

There is a mutual agreement to build a thermal power plant near the town of Meghri on Armenian soil and another one near the town of Ujtubin in Iran. Both plants have about the same performance capabilities of about 75.5 Mwt.–a per annum electricity generation of 410 million kwt.

Grigorian said an estimated $100 million are required for the construction of the Meghri thermal power plant. Armenian specialists will coordinate activities with their Iranian colleagues. The Iranian "Mahab Hods" Engineering Company is preparing a feasibility report of the Ujtubin power plant. Both sides are expected to meet to discuss the use of water–environmental problems–as well as prepare materials to be considered at the two countries’ energy departmen’s.
