GLENDALE–The Glendale City Council Tuesday issued a proclamation commemorating the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide and proclaiming that all flags at municipal buildings will be lowered to half mast on Saturday–April 24.
The proclamation read by Glendale mayor Ginger Bremberg condemned the Genocide and called on all citizens of Glendale to commemorate this condemnable incident in history.
Speaking on behalf of the Armenian-American community–Glendale Armenian National Committee member Pierre Chragchian highlighted the importance of recognizing the Genocide–in order to prevent such crimes from occurring.
Chragchian thanked the City Council for its sensitivity to this issue and praised its decision to lower the flags on April 24.
Present to accept the proclamation were Stepan Kabadyan–chairman of the St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church Board of Trustees; Dzaghig Gourjian–chairwoman of the Armenian Relief Society Glendale Sepan chapter; Nune Gasparyan a scout representing the Homenetmen Ararat chapter; Thomas Yedgarian representing the Armenian-American Council of Aging; and Thomas Azarian representing the Armenian Youth Association of California.
