Genocide Discussed At Iranian Parliament

TEHRAN (Alik)–In a speech given in the Iranian Parliament (Mejlis)–Vartan Vartanian–the representative of Armenia’s living in northern Iran’stated–"Armenia’s all over the world have great hopes and expectations tied to the Iranian Parliament and government as a whole as far as the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 goes." Turkey is not only not admitting its crime–but also distorting the facts of what actually happened.

Vartanian speaking in an open session of Parliament–discussed the Armenian genocide and asked the world powers to stand firm in backing up Armenia in an attempt to redeem its human rights.

Vartanian then pointed to the continuing abuse of human rights by present day Turkey in its continuing oppression of native Kurds. Vartanian pointed to the bombings and murders carried out by the Turkish army. The parliamentarian then went on to recount the mass exodus of Armenian people as a result of the Genocide and their having to move to Iran and nearby countries as well as other countries all over the world. In these new homelands the people established rich communities. Consequently–these communities–are the key proof of the slayings conducted in 1915 which drove most Armenia’s out of their own homelands.

Vartanian then went on to thank and offer his personal feeling of pride for those nations and organizations which had the courage and nobility to recognize the genocide and make sure that such atrocities will not be perpetuated.

Vartanian concluded his speech by pointing out the deliberate attempt by the current Turkish government to ignore history and attempt to "change" what happened. Nevertheless–the Armenian people will not back down and will keep striving to make their goal reality. And–until the day that the cause is solved–Armenia’s will continue to stage rallies–protests and do everything in their power to show the world that justice still has not been served.
