YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– Since 1997 a cheese-making project has been under way in 4 regions of Armenia (Shirak–Lori–Vayots Dzor and Aragatsotn). The project is being implemented within the framework of USDA’s program for the establishment and encouragement of cheese production in Armenia. Marketing expert of the USDA Office in Armenia–Armenuhi Sahakian–said that currently 7 types of cheese are being produced in Armenia.. However–the six tons of cheese produced were mainly sold in Yerevan.
Sahakian also said that 40 jobs have been created during the project implementation. A total of 1,300 farmers from 53 villages of the country provided cheese-making shops with milk.
