Armenian Tops Schiff Essay Contest Winners

PASADENA–State Senator Adam Schiff Thursday announced the winners of his first annual Student Essay Contest–chosen from among hundreds of essays submitted with a theme of "If I were a State Senator–I would…."

Topping the list of five first place winners was La Crescenta’s Clark Magnet High School student Tanya Cholakian. Of the 30 students receiving honorable mentions–five were Armenia’s. They are: Raffi Barsoumian and Anahit Sinoryan of John Marshall Fundamental High School in Pasadena; Tenny Renee Ghazarians of Glendale High School; Nuneh Grigoryan of Hoover High School in Glendale; and Michael Keshishian.

The five winners will be flown to Sacramento next month–courtesy of Southwest Airlines–to spend a day with Sen. Schiff–tour the State Capitol and observe the legislature.

"I am very proud of the quality of submissions and I extend my congratulations to the winners and those who won honorable mention," said Schiff.

"Based on the thoughtful and inspiring essays of these up-and-coming young leaders of tomorrow–our future looks very bright indeed," continued Schiff.
