Armenia to Participate in Expo 2000 International Exhibition

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade–Chief Executive in Armenia for the EXPO-2000 international exhibition–Movses Dzavarian signed an official agreement involving Armenia’s participation in the exhibition with the Executive in the countries of Central and East Europe and the CIS–A. Sarkani. Dzavarian said that the main goal of Armenia’s planned participation in the exhibition to be held in Hannover–Germany–is to raise the country’s prestige and indicate "Armenia’s place on the map". He also pointed out that 187 countries expressed willingness to participate in the exhibition.

Presenting the preparations–Dzavarian stressed that the Armenian side is waiting for assistance of Armenian businessmen and the Diaspora. Armenia’s participation in the exhibition will require–according to Dzavarian–about 400,000 drams. German Ambassador to Armenia–Carolla Muller Holtkemper reported that the EXPO-2000 exhibition will rank first among all the previously held exhibitions as far as the number of participating countries and visitors is concerned.

The coordinator of the preparations–Narine Sahakian said that the Armenian people will be able to display many things at the exhibition; the Armenian pavilion will be called "Following the tracks of Noah’s Ark". It will resemble Noah’s Ark and will occupy an area of 3,000 sq. meters in the central part of the exhibition.
