Air Defense Coordinating Committee Meets in Russia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A delegation of Armenia’s defense ministry led by chief of the air defense department–colonel Ararat Ambarian is currently attending a meeting of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee to the Commonwealth of Independent States Council of Defense Ministers–which started in Moscow on May 24.

The ADCC meeting is chaired by Air Colonel-General Anatoly Kornukov–ADCC Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of Russia’s Air Force.

The participants in the meeting will discuss ten items such as–in particular–ADCC activities–the results of the CIS Defense Ministers Council session–held in Yerevan on May 20–matters concerning collective security of CIS countries in present-day conditions–and preparations for CIS Comradeship-in Arms ’99 coalition exercises with field firing–which are to take place at the Ashuluk firing range in Astrakhan Region in August.

Participants in the ADCC meeting are to hold a methodological training assembly to consider the question of the production and maintenance of Air Force and Air Defense armamen’s and military hardware as well as prospects for the development of new specimens of armamen’s.

The ADCC meeting is also being attended by representatives of Belarus–Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Tajikistan–Ukraine–Russia–Georgia as well as by more than 40 representatives of the military-industrial sector and research institutes.
