CIS Prime Ministers Meet in Minsk

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A meeting of the Council of the CIS Prime Ministers opened in Minsk–Belarus–Friday. Also attending the meeting are Armenian Prime Minister Armen Darbinian–government officials–Gagik Martirossian–Vardan Oskanian and Vazgen Sargssian.

The meeting is to discuss the documen’s submitted by the special interstate forum for discussing the issues of improving the CIS activities and reforms. The most important issues are those of the common budget of the CIS organizations and delegations in the Council of CIS Prime Ministers which is currently chaired by Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Utkir Sultanov.

The CIS prime ministers are to consider documen’s concerning the formation of a free trade zone–CIS Economic and Executive Councils–observation of the tax legislation and struggle against violations in the sphere–as well as the CIS Urban Development Charter–Interstate program of light industry products standardization for 1999-2000 and transportation of special cargoes and ammunition.

The meeting will also discuss issues related to the activities of CIS defense ministries and law-enforcement agencies. Among the documen’s submitted for the discussion of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council are the Agreement on stationing of and interaction between law-enforcement agencies in CIS territory as well as the Concept of the interstate subsystem of informational exchange between the CIS law-enforcement agencies.

The participants in the meeting will also discuss the documen’s on the order of transit through the CIS territory–prolongation of the agreement on joint anti-monopoly policy–Concept of ensuring the competitiveness of exportable products as well as the agreement on common transport tariff policy.

The Council of the CIS Defense Ministers will ask for the consideration of the Council of CIS Prime Ministers the Concept of the military information security–Program of military cooperation and Agreement on struggling against terrorism.

CIS prime ministers are expected to sign a number of agreemen’s pertaining to cooperation of CIS law enforcement agencies–exchange of information among interior ministry agencies–formation of interstate system–approval of statistical data on combat against organized crime.
