$30 000 Donation to the Shoushi Music School

The dream of two former classmates was realized by the foundation of an agricultural project in Artsakh in order to provide food subsistence to the children of Shoushi Music School and other needy children in the community.

This unique project was accomplished by the generous donation of $30,000 by Zaven Ken Darian of New York.

Recently–Zaven’s high school classmate and friend Armen Khandjian of Los Angeles–handed the check to Garen Gharibian–founder of the Shoushi Music School.

The farm named "Zavenavan" is already established and functioning. With special agreemen’s with the nearby village of Der Ardavazd–the hen-house–and the pig and cow barns have been purchased and are now the property of the Shoushi Music School. The farm will be supplied with its private tractor–truck and dairy farm equipment. The 40 hectare piece of land–will soon be stocked with poultry and milk producing cows. The farms will be run by the latest scientific methods.

The main objective of the project is to provide necessary dairy products and sustenance to the school-children as well as the needy of the community.

In 1996–Armen and Zaven established the Artsakh Carpet Company in order to preserve and promote the ancient art of Armenian carpet weaving and to provide income to local weavers. In the near future–the school will add a carpet weaving department and train students in the art and practices of the industry.

Hereby–Zaven Darian and Armen Khandjian encourage their classmates at the Armenian Evangelical College of Beirut–and others to participate in the noble task of helping and elevating the educational and economic standards of Artsakh.
