Armenian French University to Open in Yerevan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"We are preparing the documen’s on establishing the Armenian-French University to submit them to the government. The opening of the University is likely to take place in Yerevan in the fall," Educational Attach of the French Embassy in Armenia Michel Maximovich told a new conference Tuesday.

According to him–the Armenian-French University will have two kinds of partners: "initiators and participants." The initiators are the French Embassy in Armenia–the Ministry of Science and Education of Armenia and "Armcoop," while the participants are "Paris XII" University–the Paris "Jean Droin" school of hotel business–and the Rhem Professional Education Company.

The French Embassy is responsible for organizing and controlling the teaching process–the Ministry of Science and Education will provide academic support–and "Armcoop" will provide the premises for the University and its management.

Two kinds of training courses are planned: university and specialized (on the basis of school certificate). The school will teach such subjects as law–economics–management–industrial dress-making–and table-serving. Some changes are expected to be made next year. In particular–new departmen’s in optics–cookery and agriculture will be opened. The Department of training secretaries with a good knowledge of languages such as Armenian–Russian–English and French is also expected to be opened in the future. French will be an obligatory subject for all the students with English also being taught and Armenian being a widely used language of teaching.

Both Armenian teachers and French specialists will teach at the University.

Maximovich pointed out that each sphere of the University’s activities should be in strict accordance with the law. The University will not pursue the goal of obtaining profits despite the fact that the education will be paid.

The university will issue diplomas to its graduates certifying their specialty. If they wish–the graduates can continue their education at relevant French educational establishmen’s.
