Fifth Defendant Testifies On Ter Sahakian’s Case

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At a June 22 court session of the Armen Ter-Sahakian case–defendant Aghassi Avetissian confirmed that he deliberately broke down a car to be unable to drive Sukiassian’s murderers from the scene of the crime. According to an indictment–Avetissian and Israel Sargssian were instructed by Armen Ter-Sahakian to drive to Ashtarak in a second car–but they returned because of a fault in the car. At a previous court session Sargssian said he was not in the car–while Avetissian said he does not remember the passenger. According to Avetissian–Ter-Sahakian did not specify the post of the man to be murdered–saying only that "he was a traitor and he must be eliminated."

Avetissian reiterated that after the murder he had announced his intention to quit the group–but Ter-Sahakian said: "you either throw yourself from a bridge–or we kill you–or you kill someone and not let us down." The defendant also said that if he had reported the murder to the Interior Ministry–he "wouldn’t have returned." He said that Ter-Sahakian had close relations with leaders of the Armenian National Movement–whom he did not know.

Avetissian pleaded guilty to participating in stealing a van from the Russian military unit stationed in Kanaker.
