YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Karabakh president Arkady Ghoukassian met Tuesday with members of the Karabakh National Assembly and government to discuss the recent resignation of the Karabakh prime minister.
Ghoukassian said that the main reason he asked the prime minister to resign was the government’s inappropriate economic policy–which–Ghoukassian said–has led to a difficult social and economic situation in the republic and has undermined the population’s trust in the government.
The President blamed an extremely inefficient taxation system–which discouraged economic production. Ghoukassian noted that the reprimand equally spreads onto himself and the parliament. According to him–the government has been recently ignoring laws frequently.
A direct consequence of bad economic policy of the government is the impoverishment of the population–Ghoukassian said.
"We shall continue reforms. We will aim at raising the population’s welfare and solving social problems," Ghoukassian said.
Ghoukassian spoke for cooperation and a clear division of all branches of power.
Ghoukassian also said that will be holding consultations with members of the parliament and government about possible candidacy for the office of prime minister.
