New Russian Border Troops Commander Appointed

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian met Wednesday with Deputy Director of the Federal Border Service of the Russian Federation Lieutenant-General Vladimir Kruglik. Kruglik introduced the new commander of the ‘Armenia’ Group of the Federal Border Service of the Russian Federation Lieutenant-General Mikhail Naimilo. Naimilo will succeed Major-General Yevgeny Potekhin–who served for about three years in Armenia.

Kocharian acknowledged Yevgeny Potekhin’s contribution to the development of Armenian-Russian military cooperation. The Armenian president said a special relationship based on mutual confidence and understanding formed between the two sides during Potekhin’s tenure and hoped for these traditions to be maintained in the future.

Also attending the meeting were National Security Minister Serge Sargssian and Commander of the Border Troops of Armenia’s Ministry of National Security Lieutenant-General Levon Stepanian.
