NORA Members Take Leadership Positions in Young GOP of California

*Steve Samuelian and Ara Bedrosian elected to leadership positions during YRFC convention in Ontario–Calf.

LOS ANGELES–National Organization of Republican Armenia’s Board Members Ara Bedrosian and Steve Samuelian were elected to leadership positions in the Young Republican Federation of California–last week–during its annual convention in Ontario–California.

Ara Bedrosian–one of the founding members of NORA in 1998–was named Chairman of the Young Republican Federation – San Fernando Valley Chapter. Bedrosian has been involved in Republican Party activities on both the national level and in Virginia–Washington DC and California.

Steve Samuelian–who was one of the founding Board Members of the YRFC in 1991–was unanimously elected to the position of Vice-Chairman At Large for California. Samuelian who has held several leadership posts in the YRFC prior to this position was thanked by the Board of Directors–including outgoing Chairman Steve Lesher for his hard work on behalf of the YRFC.

"We are proud to have active Armenian-Americans like Ara and Steve on our Board of Directors," said NORA Chairperson Melanie Kerneklian. "They volunteer countless hours to advance the Republican agenda and are excellent examples of what the Armenian-American community can be capable of. Ara Bedrosian and Steve Samuelian have paved the road for future active Republican Armenian-Americans," concluded Kerneklian.

During the annual YRFC convention–an Executive Committee meeting of the California Republican Party (CRP) was held to discuss by-law changes regarding the national convention delegation process. Samuelian participated in the meeting as a member of the State GOP Executive Committee. After the Executive Committee meeting the YRFC Board of Directors meet to approve yearly charter requiremen’s for all chapters and unit clubs. During the meeting–Assembly Republican Leader Scott Baugh addressed the board and stressed the importance of winning a Republican majority in the State Legislature in 2000. During the Board Meeting outgoing Chairman Steve Lesher thanked the Board for all their support and cooperation in his two years as Chairman. The Executive Board in turn thanked Chairman Lesher for his dedication to the YRFC and for more than doubling the membership of the organization.

After the Board meeting the delegates gathered for General Session. State Senator Jim Brulte–Assemblyman Rico Oller–and CRP Treasurer Mike Der Manouel addressed the delegates after which the delegates voted to elect the new Executive Board.

In the evening–more than 200 leaders gathered for the YRFC annual awards dinner. California State Senators Ray Haynes and John Lewis–as well as California Assemblymen Keith Olberg–Rico Oller–Mike Briggs–and Tony Strickland were among the speakers. There was a video presentation from Congressman James Rogan acknowledging the YRFC for their work on behalf of the Republican cause.

The evening’s featured speaker was Congresswoman Mary Bono–who shared her experiences of serving in Congress and actively participating in the impeachment process.

The dinner reception was closed by an awards presentation to the outgoing state Chairman of the YRFC–Steve Lesher.
