Consortium to Finance Iran Armenia Gas Pipeline

YEREVAN (Interfax)–The Armenian Energy Ministry–the National Gas Company of Iran–Russia’s Gazprom and Gaz de France are the biggest participants in an international consortium that will finance the construction of an Iran-Armenia gas pipeline.

They will meet shortly to discuss the construction and the price of gas–a source in the Armenian Armgazproyekt institute told Interfax. The construction cost is estimated at $120 million.

The two countries signed an agreement on the construction in 1992 and revised it in 1999. The pipe will have a diameter of 700 millimeters. Of its total length of 140 kilometers–100 kilometers will be laid in Iran from the city of Tabriz and the remaining 40 kilometers in Armenia. During an annual pumping period–which lasts from March to November–1 billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered.
