Ghoukassian Meets Jewish Committee of America

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian met July 7 with a delegation of the Jewish Committee of America led by Peter Rosenblat and Ronald Weiner.

Ghoukassian voiced confidence that the visit of the delegation like all previous contacts with the Jewish community of the United States–will give start to efficient and continuous cooperation. At the same time Ghoukassian noted that people of Artsakh are well aware of the history of Jewish people and Israel and pay much attention to processes going on in that country. According to him–the Israeli experience is very valuable for Artsakh–where currently processes are taking place that are very similar to what Israel went through 50 years ago.

Peter Rosenblat said that their visit to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is conditioned by the desire to learn about Karabakh–since the Jewish community does not have sufficient information about the region or the path Artsakh has traveled. He stressed the necessity of restoring traditions of friendship between Armenia’s and Jews and expressed readiness of the Jewish American community to render assistance and support for Nagorno Karabakh. Rosenblat also noted that the current visit to Karabakh like all previous meetings with the president in Karabakh and in the United States–brings hope that Nagorno Karabakh will find solution to problems it faces.
