Envoy Clarifies Purpose of Karabakh’s US Mission

YEREVAN (Snark)–"The fact that the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Public Relations Bureau in Washington DC has been reorganized into the Permanent Mission of Karabakh in the USA should not be linked to any actions that might somehow predetermine the status of Karabakh," said Karabakh’s permanent representative in Armenia Karen Mirzoyan.

His commen’s came in reaction to statemen’s made by US State Department representative James Foley–who had said–according to a report by Baku’s Turan news agency–that the US does not recognize the Nagorno Karabakh Republic as an independent state and did not give "consent to diplomatic recognition or granting official status to the mission or office of Nagorno Karabakh."

Mirzoyan noted that Karabakh’s status is the key issue in the peace process guided by the OSCE Minsk Group.

"The reorganization of the Karabakh Public Relations Bureau in Washington DC into the Permanent Mission of Karabakh in the US is being implemented under an agreement with the appropriate authorities–and has the aim of registering the status of the mission under US law–and also of the speedy settlement of the conflict," Mirzoyan said.

For example–Palestine has a similar mission in the US–and it has been actively involved in the settlement of Palestinian relations with Israel for many years–Mirzoyan noted.
