Armenia Holds Festival of Elderly Artists

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A country-wide festival of elderly artists and performers is being held in Armenia. The festival will last until October and embrace all genres of art–Welfare Ministry official Jemma Baghdasarian told reporters late last week. She pointed out that the festival is aimed at acquainting the public with the talents and capabilities of its elderly representatives.

According to Baghdasarian–the festival was planned in connection with UN’s declaration that 1999 is the international year of elders. Persons over 60 are participating in the festival and its contests. The winners will perform at a concert at the National Opera House on October 1.

Baghdasarian reported that a contest of journaliststic work on elderly issues will also be held.

Baghdasarian said that a government commission was set up to make preparations for marking the International Day of the Elders.
