“Breaths” Chamber Chorus Performs in France

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "Breaths" chamber chorus went on a tour to France recently. The chorus gave joint performances with the Lyon and Balan choruses at the international contest-festival held in Tour and returned to Armenia with a diploma and medal awarded by the mayor of Balan.

Art Director and Conductor of the "Breaths" chorus Sona Hovhannissian said that the chorus tries to perform rarely performed compositions including those of modern composers. Among the compositions performed by the chorus–Hovhannissian mentioned Benjamin Britten’s "Mercy," Bach’s "Passions for John," and Arthur Oneger’s "Wall of the Dead."

For six years–the chorus has performed in Armenia and abroad and participated in many international festivals. In 1996–the "Breaths" chorus recorded its performances. The recording contains Ludvic Basil’s sacred songs and a performance on the motifs of Grigor Narekatsi’s "Book of Mournful Songs." The chorus was a prize winner at the international polyphonic contest-festival held in Arezzo–Italy in 1997.
