YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Armenian Foreign Ministry delegation headed by Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian arrived in Seoul–South Korea onWednesday. The delegation held a meeting with Korean President Kim De-Jung.
Minister Oskanian handed over to the Korean President a message from Armenian president Robert Kocharian. The Korean president attached high importance to the visit of the Armenian foreign minister–pointing out that it will certainly promote the development of Armenian-Korean relations.
This is the first visit of such a high level. President De-Jung expressed thanks for the message and asked the Armenian foreign minister to convey an invitation to visit South Korea to the Armenian president.
The sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest related to international and regional affairs as well as those of political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Later that day the Armenian foreign minister held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Korea Hon Sun-Yeng. The ministers exchanged information on the economic situations in the two countries–the Karabakh problem and the current situation in the Korean Peninsula. The sides also discussed the issues of the economic relations development–creation of relevant legislation for bilateral relations–and strengthening of cooperation within the framework of international organizations. Minister Oskanian officially invited his Korean counterpart to visit Armenia. The Korean foreign ministry accepted the invitation and thanked Oskanian.
The Armenian delegation was scheduled to return to Yerevan on Thursday. On September 3 Oskanian will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
